I have been making things, and that means that my lungs are full of fumes and my head is dizzy. And I hurt my finger. So we are going to have a short post today.
OK, here is a theme that is going to recur on this blog: how people in the past viewed the past. We have a tendency to think of history as this thing that pushes on toward us, but of course people in earlier eras had to figure out what the heck had happened in history and how it related to them.
Now, I mainly know about this in terms of how people in Anglo-Saxon England thought about Bronze Age and other prehistoric sites, Roman ruins and so on. But for today I’m going to be lazy and provide a picture of Alexander the Great flying in a cage pulled by griffons while his late medieval French knights look on in shock.
